Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey proved that he is on the way to becoming one of the stars in the Premier League by helping the club win the FA Cup last season. The Welshman has taken a long time in order to recover from his leg break suffered a few years ago. Now, he seems to be back to his best and constantly improving as well. Despite this, the club suffered disappointment in the league title race after they lost out to Manchester City despite being top on Christmas.
Assessing the season that just concluded, Ramsey stated that Arsenal could have gone on to lift the title had it not been for the heavy away defeats that this effort against Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester city. Of the lot, the 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Chelsea would have been the most difficult to take, while it was all started with a 6-3 thrashing against city earlier in the season. Ramsey reckons that Arsenal would have not dropped so far behind in the title race had it not been for those heavy defeat, which appeared to take the confidence out of the team.
Further, Ramsey was injured for most of the second half of the season. His return coincided with an improvement in form towards the season end.
“We got off to a really good start, that’s something we had been lacking over the last few years. We came out of the blocks firing and were top of the league for long periods of the season. Everyone was really excited and looking forward to it, thinking that we’ve got a great opportunity. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be. I think the results away from home against the so-called bigger teams have been damaging and that’s what’s cost us in the end,” said Ramsey.
