Arsene Wenger has come down hard at his boys for their horrible performance in defence the other day versus AS Monaco.
It was the opening leg of one of the knockout ties of the Gunners in the champions League and they lost it by 1-3.
Now, if they have to advance in the tournament, they must win the return leg by a margin of 3 or more goals.
Arsenal has been getting knocked out from the pre quarter final stage in Europe for the previous 4 years and they would not want to let it happen to them again.
But, after losing so heavily, they have an uphill task in their hands now.
Wenger reckons that his team probably attacked a bit more than they should have and that’s because they got carried away with the occasion.
In the post match press conference, the Frenchman was quoted as speaking, “We were not sensible at all. There was no need to rush. Even during the break, we had talked about it that we must not let them get another one on the score-sheet, but, there was lack of patience shown there from our side in the second half. We could have kept ourselves in the game if we had been slightly more patient.”
“It has got tough now after that third goal; very, very tough.”
When asked about Olivier Giroud who had torrid time on the pitch as he just kept missing his target, Wenger said, “He did not get it right today. He is a very reliable player otherwise. Just an off day for him I would say.”
Giroud has 8 goals to his name in the 15 games that he has played in the Premier League in the 2014-15 Season.
