It seems that Thomas Vermaelen is thinking about making a move away from Arsenal at the start of next year. The Belgian international hasn’t been given too many playing opportunities by the Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger this season. He has featured only once for the Gunners in the ongoing Premier League.
Although, Vermaelen said that he is not overly worried about not being given enough playing time, but, he didn’t deny the chances of an away move during the mid season transfer window.
Vermaelen was talking to the reporters a couple of days back. When he was asked about the chances of him making a move in January, he said, “We are only in October. January is a couple of months away. So, transfer is not in my mind at the moment. But, yes, sitting on the sidelines is never ideal especially when you have to go into a tournament like World Cup in a few months’ time.”
“I am not too much worried about the situation. I have been asked a lot of times whether I am panicking due to the fact that I am not being given regular playing time, I have always answered ‘no’.”
“I have had a chat with Arsene Wenger, but, I will not reveal what we spoke about. Things can change in minutes in professional football. You never know what’s going to happen tomorrow or at the end of the week.”
“At the start of the next year, we will have a chat again. Let’s see how things go.”
Vermaelen has been playing for Arsenal since the last 4 years, and the club look closer than ever to landing a trophy (check all the latest Arsenal odds here). He had arrived at the Emirates stadium in June 2009 after leaving the Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam. The 27 years old Belgian defender is close to making 100 League appearances for the Gunners.
